The tongue is but a muscle; it has no bone structure that holds it in place. Yet, the tongue is that very part of the body that can speak blessings or cursing, life or death. No man in the natural has ever succeeded in completely taming the tongue, except Jesus Christ alone. Driven by the Father and led by the Holy Spirit, Jesus spoke only those things that were in the Father’s heart. We express with our tongues that which is in our hearts. The words that proceed from our mouths carry either life or death.
In the natural order of things we go to school to become educated about things that we have not known. We acquire knowledge in order to use it in the daily operation of our lives. Most of this knowledge results from words people have spoken with their tongues, which express the thoughts, ideas, and perceptions of their hearts and minds. God, our Father, who created the heavens and the earth, created us also. We recall from Genesis 1 that across the first six days, the Father actualized a grand design, speaking all of creation into existence, culminating in humanity, His highest achievement. When we stop to consider the magnitude of this beyond amazing event, we cannot help but realize the power, authority, creativity, and innovation of our heavenly Father. The Holy Spirit is full of TRUTH, and He guides us into all TRUTH. The power that the Father used to speak creation into being is the very same power He has imbued us with through His Spirit.
It is certainly possible to succeed in this world using natural knowledge alone. But the Father, who knows all things, gives His sons insight regarding things that exist, things that have been, and things that are to come. When we submit to His guidance and leading, we need not fear human language or knowledge. He affords us all things because we are joined to Him. The more we learn to trust in Him without doubt or blame, the stronger we become in the language of the Spirit. I’m not talking about speaking in tongues! I’m talking about our tongues being in synch with the heart and mind of the Father. When this is so, the words we speak reflect the Father. By His power they awaken things that are dying, accelerate things that have slowed down, and speak and create blessings for others. When our ears are awakened by our Father’s voice, His whispers give us complete confidence regarding what we should do as well as the courage to do it. The Father does not do all of this just for our benefit, lest we become selfish; He means for us to give it to others.
