To the natural man, we live in unstable times today. Ours is a deeply-troubled, problem-filled, and often frightening and depressing world. Many people are perplexed that this is so, considering how far we have advanced in so many areas. However, systemic issues of sin, evil, and corruption still plague us, revealing themselves in such afflictions as poverty, dysfunctional families, death, sexual abuse, perversion, loss, and so forth. No matter how intelligent we are as a people or how highly educated any of us may be, the answers to the meaning and purpose of life and to the healing of the world’s ills still elude us because they can be found in no one except our heavenly Father. It is He and He alone who possesses the treasure of all wisdom, knowledge, and understanding.
The world indeed cries out for peace, joy, and quietness. My heart grieves whenever I see people who have given up in despair because the weight of their problems has exceeded their strength. If someone developed a pill or other medication that, taken daily, would bring peace and tranquility, the world would rush to their door to receive it. Mankind’s instability is due to our estrangement from our heavenly Father. He is the life-giving Spirit, and righteousness, joy, and peace are His standard. Man’s wisdom and knowledge suffice only for a time and then, because they are finite and limited, fade away.
The only way we can live in this world and yet not be part of it is by partaking of the wisdom and knowledge of the Father. Global societies by and large follow principles and standards that originated with man but cannot sustain the spirit of man over the long term. Manmade wisdom and knowledge are no match for the perpetual onslaught of difficult times, heartaches, hopelessness, sickness, violence, and despair that afflict humanity throughout life. Anger rises and the blame game begins. Overarching it all is the accuser of the brethren, who enjoys jamming wedges between brother and brother, sister and sister, and man and God. We must learn to desire and diligently seek the wisdom and knowledge of God because of its priceless value and life-giving nature.
Wisdom from God comes from hearing Him and knowing how to apply what He says in our lives. His knowledge is powerful and simple, and completely confounds the wisdom of this age. It can sustain multiplied generations and provide breakthroughs regarding things that lie far ahead. Walking in the fear of the Lord gives us unlimited access to His treasury. While the people of this world covet the earth’s natural resources to showcase their worth, we as the sons of the Father should always desire His eternal supernatural resources of true wisdom, knowledge, and understanding.
